CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY

We know ,how terrifying OGD scopy for the patient nowadays..Think,we can visualize the GI tract by simply swallowing a pill.?Off course,it is possible now. That is called the CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY.

CAPSULE ENDOSCOPE is like a pill with a camera,a battery and a transmitter. Then suppose ,where is the light for visualization of GIT.?
For that there is LED(light emitting diode). This ENDOSCOPE is ,a wireless device that works on the the Bluetooth technology, sending signals to a data recorder at waist of patient.

Ask the patient to swallow the capsule endoscope. Before that, it should be kept under tongue for some time in order to evaluate the light source. The capsule passes through G I tract because of peristalsis, and eliminated through defecation.

It is a painless procedure where no sedation is required.Capsule endoscope produces coloured images of GI TRACT at a rate of 2 images per sec for 8 hours. It is used to visualize the parts of small intestine that are not visualized by OGD and COLONOSCOPY (jejunum up to terminal ileum). It helps in diagnosis of CROHNS DISEASE,MICROVASCULAR INJURIES,MALABSORPTION ,GI BLEED etc.
